If you've seen the weather report you know most of the East Coast is under siege with poor weather, mainly snow! Imagine you live in one of these states where families are asked not to leave their homes because the roads are so dangerous with three, four or five feet of packed snow! It's not uncommon for students to have multiple 'snow days' and are unable to attend school. In these extreme cases many are snowed in for days, maybe even weeks! This ultimately means lack of exercise, as we typically think of getting exercise.
With this in mind, think of your own family and their physical fitness needs and design an exercise program that would enable you/your family to do everything inside. Be creative using a variety of exercises and activities hitting all muscle groups. (ie. sock juggling, hula hoops, dancing, etc.) Think back to previous blogs and various needs. (remember not all of us have Wii programs or may have electricity in such extreme weather conditions)

There are plenty of exercises you could do indoors. For example, if you live in a two-story house, you could use the stairs to do incline and decline push-ups. Also, you could jump rope and do lunges to work on your leg muscles. Finally, you could do some yoga which will help you with balance and flexibility.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, instead of going to the gym and lifting weights, go around my house for things like plants, heavy bottles, or even my brother to exercise with. One can run in place, jump rope, crunches while holding a book, or even hop scotch. Th possibilities are endless!
ReplyDeleteWhat I think they should do is by a treadmill in months before and walk a mile each day, watch some dance and cardio movies, and do some weights.
ReplyDeleteIf you are stuck indoors, you could do a few basic exercises, such as jumping jacks, sit ups, or push ups. You could also do more fun exercises, such as dancing or hula hooping.
ReplyDeleteOne good exercise is walking up and down stairs, or if in a one story house, stepping up and down off a chair. Weightlifting, jumping jacks, push-ups and walking in circles around the house are other good exercises that can be done inside. Indoor games, like ping pong (if available), would also add an aspect of fun to exercise. Another idea for a game is monkey in the middle. Also, pets need exercise too. If there are pets, they can also participate in some of these activities, such as walking and monkey in the middle. If you have a dog, you can also play fetch and tug of war.
ReplyDeletePersonally, the most fun game to play inside the house is nerf wars. Two teams or free for all, all you need is a couple of nerf guns, plenty of ammunition, and some players. This game helps improve coordination, dogding skills, creativity, and aim. This is also a very tiring game and is extremely fun.
ReplyDeleteIf I couldn't go outside to exercise, I would probably do pretty much the same exercise routine that I follow now. I would do a lot of body weight exercises (like push-ups, planks, or pull-ups etc). If I could I would also try to go running, but if I couldn't, I would probably but a trampoline. I love trampolines, and they're a really good workout.
ReplyDeleteSome ideas would be playing balloon volley ball, riding the exercise bike, using the stairs, and lifting weights.
ReplyDeleteOne could perform jumping jacks, jumping rope for cardio, core exercises like sit-ups and push-ups for muscles, and yoga for breathing exercises and stretching.
ReplyDeleteI already do the majority of my exercise via Wii programs, but if that were not a possibility indoor exercise would still be very possible. Anything you can do in a gym you can do in your own home: push-ups, weight-lifting, etc. The only problem is that you don't have a lot of room to move about, so you may need to just Jog in place. Of course, owning treadmill solves that problem.
ReplyDeleteThe inside exercise program that I would create for my family and I would be walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes per day and riding the exercise bike for 30 minutes per day, as well as doing yoga streches for 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after.
ReplyDeleteIf the weather was bad, the exercise program I would set up for my family would consist of riding the exercise bike, the treadmill and jumping rope. I would also include light weights for strength training. I would set this up for atleast 20 to 30 minutes per day. This would always include warming up with stretches to prevent any muscle injuries.
ReplyDeleteYou can play music and cds and then you could have dance competitions or learn dances you could also play games that you can move in like my parents like a game where you stretch out in funny ways on a colored matt

I think that if you are stuck indoors you can focus on strength exercises. Most of these types of exercises can be done inside. You could do yoga, weight lifting, sit ups, push ups, jump rope, jumping jacks and other activities like these.
