Depression plays a huge part in our mental and physical well being. Weather may also play a huge piece in our mental state. Think about the 'grey cities/states' (ie. Seattle,Washington) as they are called, and/or what's going on in the midwest and back east right now. How are these people coping with the weather? California is a place with great weather year-round. Think about it, if everyday when you wake up and see another cloudy, raining, or snowing day, would you feel happy? People in the "grey states" often feel down because of their weather's gloomy feel. Fortunately, California allows us to be physically well. This in turn, improves our physical and mental well-being.
ReplyDeletePhysical exercise is a necessary part of physical health. In addition to the physical benefits, it can create mental benefits as well, such as decreasing boredom by having something to do and giving one a feeling of accomplishment. It has also been shown in studies that people who meet their bodies' exercise requirements have much better attitudes than those who don't, which is very important to coping with issues, such as gloomy weather.
ReplyDeletePeople cope with the weather by staying indoors and doing things that are interesting and entertaining. Physical well being helps keep depression at bay because taking care of yourself physically will make you healthier and increase your self esteem which will make you feel better mentally.
ReplyDeleteI don't personally know how the people feel but i'm sure they can adapt to some extent if they live in an area with rainy or gloomy weather. Though people who are used to the sunny "happy" weather and they are placed in a more gloomy, cloudy weather then they feel more down because of the lack of sunshine and the dark environment they are in.
ReplyDeleteWhen you have the sunshine weather you have more opportunities to go outside and exercise and clear your mind with the beautiful day which helps keep you from depression.
Some people loose interest in certain activities because of the weather. When one is occupied and active, depression is kept at bay.
ReplyDeleteI believe many people who live in places like Seattle or Washington do indoor activities. Some may join a gym, which offers many options for daily exercise. I think that living in our area is good because the weather is so mild, and we have many days with sunshine. We are able to choose if we want to do outdoor or indoor activities all year long. This really helps to prevent depression and helps us stay physically and mentally healthy.
ReplyDeleteI think that if i lived in a place where i had to do all my activities inside i would be pretty depressed. Just go outside and walking around can make a day 100 times better i dont know that i would do with out that. So i very much belive that weather has to do with the mood a person is in, or is possible for them it be.
ReplyDeleteI do notice I get more gloomy when it's dark and cold. Physical exercise can help prevent depression because of the many pleasurable chemicals that are released. Even when it's rainy you can find a way to keep your heart rate, and your smile, up.
ReplyDeleteI would imagine the people in the bad weather states are trying to exercise indoors or at a fitness club. Since exercise always perks me up and brightens my day, I would think that is the case with these people.
ReplyDeleteThe weather does seem to make us feel different emotions, which seems weird. I think that if you keep healthy and exercising that you will be happier because exercise wakes up your brain and makes you be more alert and feel better. It also seems to give you a better self esteem, which will keep you from depression.
