Myth #2 taking it easy adds years to your life
Relaxation and an early retirement do not ensure long-lasting health. According to the study, those with the most career success wer ethe least likely to dies young. In fact, on average, the most successful men lived five years longer than the least successful. ambition, perseverance, impulse control, and high motivation contributed to a resilient work life, and that led to more years overall. Usually, increased responsibility brings more challenges and a heavier workload, but this pardoxically correlates with long-term health. Continually productive men and women lived much longer than their more laid-back comrades. A sustained work life mattered a great deal more than even their sense of happiness so we all need to think twice before retiring..........Giving up an interesting, demanding job to live in a golf community away from family and friends could actually increase the risk to your health. I think some of these ideas are true. Such as the fact that ambition, perseverance, impulse control, and high motivation contribute to a resilient work life, and lead to more years overall. However, we cannot forget the fact that work is the source of stress. Stress is a constant factor that causes people to develop depression which leads to bad health. Therefore, I believe that enjoying life and being happy helps a person live a longer life.
ReplyDeleteWith a demanding job, you exercise your brain. When your brain is functioning, you create more activity. With a working, active brain, it will probably help you live longer.
ReplyDeleteWith a sustained work life, most people not only get mental exercise, but also physical. As their brain and body are constantly functioning, one is able to have better health.
ReplyDeleteThis makes sense, though as it itself says, it does sound somewhat paradoxical that a heavy work load would lead to a longer life. Also, success in a career also provides greater financial capability, leading to greater quality of life. For instance, if a person is sick or ill, they may choose not to go to the hospital and receive proper treatment due to the cost, which they might be unable afford, while a person who has had a successful career, will probably have money saved (or insurance from their employer) for emergency medical situations.
ReplyDeleteSome of those ideas I do agree with especially the one about early retirement. I think after years of work people want to relax but when they're relaxing they can let themselfs go and not follow a regular excersise or healthy diet.
ReplyDeleteThere needs to be a balance if you do nothing you lose determination and motivation but if you do nothing but work your whole life you don't enjoy anything and end up pushing away family and friends.
ReplyDeleteHaving a job and working hard may contribute to stress, but they also encourage individuals to take good care of themselves. For example, a person who retires early may spend most of his day relaxing at home. This would avoid stress and some worries, but he also may not have the opportunity to get outside and exercise. On the other hand, a business man may become stressed out, but this stress can be a benefit and help him better manage his life and health habits. He also would remain productive, alert, and active.
ReplyDeleteI think that by having a steady and more demanding job, not only are you maintaining good mental health, you are around other people which is always healthier than being alone. If one were to retire early and do nothing, mentally, the brain would have little to do. You would get lazy and get physically unhealthy, leading to a shorter life span.
ReplyDeleteThat seems to make sense. That kind of work is like an exercise for you and keeps your mind and attitude healthy.
ReplyDeleteThis makes sense because you are keeping yourself mentally active by having a successful career. This can probably help a person live longer because their brain will be healthy, sharp and functioning well. However, jobs like this can also be stressful which can be hard on the body and mind.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that a person needs to stay active to maintain their mental and physical health. But, I do think if a person has to much stress, caused from the amount of activity in their lives is not healthy. Then you need to slow down and make sure you maintain a good balance of work and exercise.
ReplyDeleteSuccess can lead to a longer life? Well, those who are unsuccessful are also capable of living a longer life, I believe. Depending on the state of mind of the person, he or she can be relatively satisfied with his/her life, and in turn, be happy whether or not they're successful.
ReplyDeleteHaving a steady but demanding job as you get into older ages could help you maintain a healthier life style. Because of your career, depending on what it is, it can help you stay mentally stable and it requires your full attention and focus. If you retire early, you wont have much to focus on and then u start to sit around and become lazy.
