Myth #4 more degrees mean more years
Not necessarily true..........The study found that when children entered school at 5 rather than 6 they often did not live as long. No one thing explained the risk, because relating to classmates is so important, an early start may have launched some kids down erratic paths. As for higher education, it was found that level of schooling by itself was not a very important predictor of longevity. The better-educated did tend to be healthier and live a little longer-but much more relevant than how many years of advanced formal education a person received were productivity and persistence in the face of challenges. 1. Having more degrees and a higher education makes a person work and think more. Throughout these years, people will face challenges that may stimulate the brain, keeping a person alert and smart. But sometimes the challenges you face may be too great, causing stress and bad health. For example, you have a big test tomorrow, so you stay up all night studying. By not sleeping, your body is unable to re-energize. This causes it to become weak, leading to a shorter life.

  2. This myth is interesting, because you would naturally expect that smarter people would live longer. With an active brain, it produces more brain cells. Therefore, you would expect them to live longer.

  4. That is a very strange statistic that 5-year-olds in kindergarten will generally die younger than those who are 6. I do however, think that determination in the face of challenge and hardship is a virtue, which I have always admired. I can see how this would lead to greater health. The ability to overcome not only allows people to move forward, it reduces stress and raises confidence as well, and we know that emotional health is closely related to physical health.

  5. I'm not sure what school would really have to do with personal health other than the stress. Stress can cause a person to escape by using drugs are alcohol which will lead to a shorter life span.

  6. Well if it is true that it is about productivity and persistence then education has nothing to do with long life because persistence and productivity are individual traits people are born with.

  7. I agree again. Education does not necessarily guarantee that a person will put his education to use to live a healthier lifestyle.

  8. I ttally agree with the last part. If you can handle what you do when it gets tough then you won't stree out as much and be healthier.

  9. I do not think that having more degrees makes a person smarter, however most of the time we think it does. I agree though, that it seems like they could live longer because of the active brain activity. Having a demanding school schedule can add a lot of stress to a person, which can effect their health.

  10. It makes sense that a higher educated person would live longer, because their brain has been challenged more and knows more than others, but if one doesn't have common sense with that higher knowledge, it would be an interesting outcome. Common sense is what keeps us healthy and alive just as well as knowledge does. A person with no common sense and a comparably higher education would be smarter, yes, but be less so in the world that does not require that sort of knowledge.

  11. Though it is often believed that the person with a higher title is smarter, i believe that the smarter person is the one who listens to their bodies. Athelets can work out harder and be the most fit out of everyone but if they do not at sometime stop they will wear the body down. Having more degrees just means you worked your body harder to improve your knowledge. A five year old who is still at home playing is learning a differnt type of knowledge thant the five year old at school, they are learning to have fun, to enjoy life, not to worry. That is a wisdom that cannot be obtained though a life time of schooling.

  12. There are many factors that contribute to poor health. An uneducated person compared to an educated person may live longer because of his/her knowledge on health and overall longevity. However, the mentality of the person also has an impact on how long he or she lives. In general I think the happier someone is, the longer his/her life will be.

  13. I do not feel that having more degrees means more years. I think a person can have one degree, and live just as long as someone with many. I do feel that a person with one or more degrees can live a long life if they take care of themselves. I feel it is important to stay physically and mentally fit, this is what will add years to your life.

  14. I don't feel tat this myth is true. Just because you had more schooling than others doesn't mean your health will be great throughout your life.
