During month 9 many of you took on my challenge to you to try walking more, whether it be to Parkview, friend's homes or even the mall. Monique mentioned that she would be participating in a 5K at Disneyland in September. That is great! Not only will you be raising money for a worthy cause, but doing something worthwhile for your body/health at the same time! Think about it, there are so many marathons, charities and opportunities for us to do something good for others and improve or maintain our health at the same time. I'm a huge proponent of this....it makes me get out there and DO IT! One of my friends ran the Boston marathon, for the fifth time!, and raised money for a charity of his choice. Now, I'm not advocating becoming a runner if you're not one, actually I loathe running, but I am saying if you have the opportunity or desire to do something for someone else like participate in a 5K, or AIDS/Diabetes/Parkinsons/Cancer, etc. WALK and raise money for a worthy cause and get some exercise for yourself at the same time, why not? Everybody wins!! As I said, I don't run, but I participate in charitable walks frequently.
In July there is a MUD Run in Irvine. Now if any of you have the desire to get filthy dirty and run in the mud, this is the activity for you! It's a lot of fun, I've only seen it not participated! You can go online for the info. But if you do participate, I want to hear all about it! Actually, if you participate in any charitable walk, please share.

I haven't had the chance to participate in any charitable walks. However, I have heard of many great walks that are nearby. I think these charitable walks are a great idea. They help out for charity and also help motivate people to exercise.
ReplyDeleteI have not participated in any charitable walks, but i do support them. I can never seem to be available on the days them have them, very unfortunate.
ReplyDeleteA family's student at Parkview is hosting a charity walk. You can ask Mrs. Chipman about it. Leadership class is talking about participating either with in marathon or simply helping out.
ReplyDeleteI haven't participated in any walk for a charity yet. But there is a walk coming up for autism I would like to participate in. This is something that is very meaningful to our family. I have two nephews with high functioning autism, and participating in a walk hopefully could help raise funding for research and increase awareness about autism.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to participated in any charitable walks. Although i have been looking around. I did do a 5k one last year and loved it. Its just hard to find the time now days.
ReplyDeleteI have participated many times in the Walk to Cure Diabetes. It is put on by JDRF which is stands for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. It is a fun time where I can get together with friends and family and participate in something that is very close and personal to me. Plus, it is a fun way to exercise.
ReplyDeleteI've never had the time or the will to do a charity walk, but maybe one day I will. Although I have always been perplexed about how exactly walking in a big circle is the most efficient way of raising money. Advertisements, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI was a part of a Women's 5K run last year in support of breast cancer. It was a memorable experience of fun with my friends, good food afterward, and the pride of knowing that I helped make a difference in someone's life. I fully support charitable walks/runs as they are fun to participate in and they help others in need.
ReplyDeleteI think charitable walks are a wonderful idea but i have not participated in any. I never seem to have the time to do any types of charitable walks but i do encourage any one who has the time to get out there and participate in these amazing charitable walks.
ReplyDeletei have not participated in a charitable walk yet, but me and my girlfriend plan to walk in one for breast cancer, because her mom died from it 2 years ago. It means a lot to her so i am going to walk like i have never walked before!
ReplyDeleteI have never participated in a charitable run or walk before. I very much like the concept though. I love the idea of people helping people and in this special case, its cool because you are also helping yourself as well. Mud run? I have never heard of that before. That sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteI did a charity walk for cancer a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it, except for the fact that it was about 1000 degrees outside. I probably will do more in the future.
ReplyDeleteI will talk to my friends and family about doing the run with me. Sounds good. My parents do the AIDS and Cancer Runs and walks.
