Thanks Josh! I am certainly enjoying all of your perspectives on the 'myths'. It goes to show just because research/experience shows 'something' doesn't mean we have to fulfill that 'prophecy' if you will. If we are prone to something in our family history/genes and we choose not to be that way, we can work hard to avoid it. An example.... I have a friend who comes from a family of alcoholics. He knows he may be predisposed to alcoholism himself, therefore he refuses to drink alcohol at all. Growing up he saw how alcoholism affected him and his siblings and he's made a conscience decision not to expose that to his children. That's not to say that if he drank, he would be an alcoholic, but for him, he's made a choice based on his own experience. Again, it comes down to choices. Moving on, share with us how you maintained your exercise routine during springbreak. Was it easier during the break or more difficult with more free time. A few of you mentioned that if you are active when you are young, you generally will maintain that when you are 'middle aged'. Well I have to share with you, growing up this middle aged woman, yes, me Mrs. D. ,was very active playing on my high school volleyball, tennis and softball team. In fact, I played softball until I was 21, but I dislike to exercise to this day. I do it because I know I must to stay healthy and to help ward off as many illnesses as possible. (and to fit into my clothes!!) So, keep those positive attitudes that many of you have about exercise and as Nike says, "just do it!"

  1. During my breaks I find it actually much more easy to be active, I have more time to play soccer or basketball with my friends and being that my family overall very active we use this extra time to explore new types of sports or types of yoga. I think that by establishing good eating and excersise mentality and habits that it will reflect in your overall health though out your life.

  2. In the end it's not really about enjoying yourself while exercising, it's about making your body strong enough to have even more fun later on. Oddly enough both my parents competed in state-level or above sports, yet I really don't enjoy activities like baseball or soccer. But if doing those things will improve my quality of life, they're certainly worth doing.

  3. During spring break, I will continue to maintain my exercise routine efficiently by playing different sports and by being outside in the fresh air. Since I will have more time, it will actually be easier to exercise. I enjoy exercising and being active. Therefore, exercising is like a hobby to me rather than a "just do it" thing. I hope to keep my hobby of exercising throughout my life.

  4. I have to push myself and my parents to make sure we go to the gym or do wii fit or play basketball. It's not easy but I know I need to do it. I have set some goals to workout more and get in shape for summer.

  5. During spring break I find it actually more difficult to exercise because of all the extra free time. All the free time makes it easier to get side tracked. For example, most students enjoy sleeping in or spending time with family and friends, or enjoying hobbies. To be honest, exercise is not really on my mind during spring break.

  6. I agree it is important to stay active, and to do some form of exercise no matter what age you are. I try to do some form of exercise daily, either at the gym or at home. I really tried to make good use of the spring break, and went often to the gym. It is very important I continue to exercise and eat well, because heart diease runs in my family. I know that good nutrition and exercising daily, will help fight heart diease. Hopefully, I will not face the same problem my father and grandfather faced. So, I agree staying positive about exercise and making the effort is important. It can make a huge difference in a persons life and their overall health.

  7. I found it easier to exercise during Spring break because I had more time. Also, my family took a couple of day trips, so I got some walking in.

  9. During spring break it was easier to find time to exercise. My family went on vacation, and while we were there we went on many hikes and day trips, so I was able to get a lot of walking in.

  10. During the Spring break it was hard to do my exercises because I like to sleep in then. But I exercised with a few people which made me keep doing it because they were also doing it.

  11. During break it was much easier to maintain my schedule for working out because my friends could join me during the day and we would workout together, which made exercising fun.
