We all want to eat and drink healthy, but sometimes we just love to have a soda! Well, look what I found and thought I'd share with you. Maybe you've seen this before, I have not and found it very interesting, almost scary... For those of you who love soft drinks, and who doesn't once in awhile, this may sway you. WATER 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%. In a U of Washington study, one glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the subjects who dieted. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. Research indicates that 8 to 10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. A 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can cut the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. COKE In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days. To clean a toilet; pour a can of Coke into the toilet bowl and let it sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in coke removes stains from vitreous china. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of aluminum foil dipped in Coke. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals; pour a can of Coke over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion. To loosen a rusted bolt: apply a cloth soaked in coke to the rusted bolt for several minutes. Coke will also clean road haze from your windshield. For your info: "The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in approximately four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones. Phosphoric acid is known to be a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis. Commercial trucks must use the "Hazardous Material" place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials, when carrying phosphoric acid in the vehicle. In an ironic twist, distributors of Coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!" Now, I'm not COKE bashing by any means. I'm sure all sodas pretty much have the same ingredients. But knowledge is power and you should know what you are drinking. Although, I've never been a huge soda drinker, my drink of choice is water, and am I going to stop now having the occasional Coke, probably not. But, now I know whenever I make the conscience effort to drink a coke, I know what I'm drinking. ........what do you think?

  2. I always knew drinking water everyday was very good for your overall health, and that sodas were not the best beverage of choice. But now I realize just how bad sodas really are. I think I will drink more glasses of water daily and not sodas.

  3. Water is such an amazing thing, those are some amazing statistics I never knew about. I think because they are so popularized in the media it blinds people about how evil sugar drinks can be. While water is good for just about anything, processed and added sugar is bad for just about everything as well. I think I will leave the coke to the dirty toilet seats and rusty cars and out of my body!

  4. I actually have a condition that requires me to drink a certain amount of water each day. Luckily I love the stuff, I always have two full bottles in the fridge. I've never been a fan of carbonated drinks, they always triggered my gag reflex. I can never resist a milkshake though.

  5. I agree with this interesting article. Some soft drinks now sound to me more like a cleaning material than a drink. If commercial trucks need to use the "Hazardous Material" sign while carrying soft drinks, should we even be drinking these compounds? Many soft drinks are dangerous and are causing serious diseases such as obesity. Instead of soft drinks, people should try drinking water, which is much more natural and healthy. We can live without soft drinks, but can we live without water?

  6. Coke sounds like it could eat up your insides. I don't like coke that much. I try to drink a lot of water. Wonder if Dr. Pepper has the same bad ingredient?

  7. I never realized how bad soda is. Now that I understand all the damage soda does to the body, I will most likely drink less soda from now on.

  9. That's very interesting. I don't like coke, and I only drink soda occassionly (although I'm technically not allowed to have soda with braces). I do try to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

  11. I did not know that coke could be used in that way or the extent of how bad it is for you. It was also interesting to find out all the long term issues linked to dehydration.

  12. I think that it is extraordinary how dehydrated we can get without even realizing it. By learning this new information, we can make the conscious choice to drink water instead of the occasional soda and improve out health overall.
