October is breast cancer awareness month. Many of us will be participating in walks to support friends and family members, or to remember those who have passed on from this dreadful disease.
In the past year, two very close friends of mine lost their lives to cancer. The most horrific part of their story is they were both breast cancer survivors; one a 52 year old 19 year survivor and the other, 67 years old and an 8 year survivor. The unfathomable happened, although both passed away, it wasn't from breast cancer but from the affects and susceptability of this horrible disease.
I share this with you so you will be more aware. This disease has touched many of us.
Last year we talked about 'walks'. Some of you shared that you've never participated in a 'walk' before.. I encourage, even implore you to choose a cause you are passionate about, and walk for someone or something you love. There are a myriad of walks you could take part in. It doesn't matter if you raise $5.00 or $500.00. Let's be a part of the solution to finding a cure to this hideous disease.
The PYLUSD, recognizes and observes this month by participating in the wearing of denim and group walks. Please share what you are doing/could do this month of awareness...

I have never done a walk before, but it is something that I would like to try. Although I don't know anyone currently who is dealing with breast cancer, I would still like to help the many women who are. Also, participating in walks is an excellent way to exercise.
ReplyDeleteI am aware that there are multiple “Breast Cancer Walks” throughout our community. By participating in these walks, people can help raise money to allow doctors and scientists to research the origin of this harmful disease.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to support those who are walking rather than walking myself. If a friend is walking, we usually donate about $20. Our library also sponsors a team, and I try to put my pocketmoney into their collection cans when I go there.
ReplyDeleteI have never praticipated in a walk before but it sounds interesting and it seems like something of great benefit. I could possibly try it out. First I need to decide what cause I am passionate about.
ReplyDeleteI have never been involved in a 'walk' before but if the opertunity came up I would like to try.
ReplyDeleteFor this month of breast cancer awarness, I could locate a magazine drive to participate in or I could put together a fundrasier to collect money to put toward breast cancer awarness.
ReplyDeleteMy parents have done the walk and we purchase things that go to money for breast cancer research. My aunt is a survivor for 8 years now. My friend's mom has survived two times with breast cancer and now she is having surgery this week for it again. We not only need to collect money for it but we need to have prayers and faith to save these people.

The only walks I have done was for school, I would love to participate in other walks expecially for breast cancer. Next time I see an oportunity for one i'm taking it.
ReplyDeleteI did the avon walk for life a few years back for my grandma that was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago. She is a survivor and so for still cancer free. It was a special day because my mom, sister, and my grandma did the walk together.
