I read this poem and thought I'd share it with you as so many of us feel this way about exercise. It was written by Dr. Riley, a onetime PE guru.

I HATE TO SWEAT

I really don't like PE at all,
it's the worst subject I've had yet;
For everything we do in class,
Causes me to profusely sweat:

Sweat always drizzles down my nose,
Off my back and tummy too;
If you get very close to me,
I'll shake some sweat all over you:

Oh sweat's so sticky and drippy,
and it forms such an ugly goo;
It's so slimy and it's salty,
and it reeks of bad odor too:

I can barely wait for summer,
How happy I surely will be;
Eating chips and sucking sodas,
As I sit watching TV.

Now be honest, how many of you feel this same way?

  1. That is a funny poem! To be honest, I sometimes feel this way as well. Exercising is tiring, and yes you do get very sweaty. Despite these negative things about exercising, I still do it, because I know it is important. If we didn't exercise, we would have many health problems. So even though we get tired and sweaty, we still need to exercise.

  2. Sweat can be a real bother especially when you're exercising in warm weather. As uncomfortable as sweat can be, you shouldn't let it stop you from being active because it is natural and is actually healthy for your body.

  3. I rarely feel that sweaty. If it's hot outdoors, I exercise indoors. When I go bike riding with my family, we return before it gets too hot. Of course, the last two lines for me would be, "drinking chocolate milk and watching TV in the family room with the fan and air conditioning on."

  4. To be honest, I like sweating. It releases harmful toxins and is a very healthy way to detox. My dance teacher keeps the room quite hot for that exact reason, which I don't mind. Sweating can be annoying but the benefits keep me active.

  6. If I am really doing what I like, like playing soccer, dodgeball, and basketball, then I love to sweat. As a general rule, I am not a profuse sweater anyways. However, when its really hot outside and you get sticky when you sweat then I prefer not to sweat.I even don't mind sweating when I am doing a service project.

  7. To be completly honest, I feel this way most of the time, if not, all if the time. Exercising can be extreamly exhausting. As much as I dislike working out, I do it anyways because I know that it's good for my health.

  8. I don't like the poem. The truth is when you exercise you sweat. I don't get as sweaty as the poem says, but it happens from exercise. It is what most bodies do.

  9. I agree with this poem, who wouldn't.The only time I am exited to exersise is when I have a dance class. Sweating is another downside to exersizing, but even though we dont like, it is very good for us. But just because we dont like it doesn't mean it should prevent us from working out.

  10. I don't think you have to get super sweaty to have good exercise. I enjoy exercising in my dance classes that are usually air conditioned, but when it's really hot I like to kayak and swim.
