February week 2

Walking has become a big part of my life. (it's amazing what I notice in my neighborhood at 5:30 a.m.)
I want to share with you what I've learned so you don't wait until you're middle age, like me, to enjoy its benefits or get started.
1. We only have one pair of feet, so make sure you take good care of them. Get a good pair of walking shoes that fit, that have flexibility and cushion for your heels.
2. If you're not a walker, don't start day one with a marathon walk or you'll become sore, tired and give up! Start with short distances and time, then gradually increase both weekly.
3. You can break up your time. If you've given yourself the goal of walking 30 minutes three times a week, but are having a hard time finding that 30 minutes (I know you're busy with school, work, family and friends) then break up the time into 15 minute walks two times a day or three short 10 minute walks.
Do whatever works for you, just do it!

Next week some tricks I use on myself to stay motivated.

  1. Some people like to break up the time they spend on exercising. Usually, this is because of a lack of time. I, however, feel that it is easier if I reserve a slot in my schedule everyday for exercising. I feel that this keeps me motivated and consistent in exercising. Everyone has their own preference of exercise. But as long as they are staying fit, any way is fine.

  2. I don't like to walk, but I do walk my dog and when I don't have a ride I walk.

  3. I prefer running instead of walking if I am going to do it regularily. Walking is to slow for me. I suppose I could try speed walking. I saw it on tv once.

  4. Everyday I will walk around my neiborhood, with my sister, for 30 minutes to an hour. If I get tired of walking I will ride my exercise bike.

  5. Although walking isn't that difficult to do, it is difficult to find the time to do it. I like the idea of breaking it up into 15 minutes. I am trying to spend more time walking, and one way I do this is by walking my two dogs around our block a few times. This is of benefit to both myself and my pets.
