February week1

The only exercise you'll ever need: WALKING
We've discussed walking and its benefits many times , but I want to share with you some interesting info from an article I read . (you all know Mrs. D. loves to read about health, etc.)
"I have two doctors, my left leg and my right leg," wrote British author George Trevelyn in 1913, about the health benefits of walking. Now, nearly a century later, medical experts are still touting the same advice: GET UP AND WALK!!!
Research tells us that walking regularly can help protect our brains from memory loss/dementia, help cut the risk of heart disease, and help reduce our chances of developing type 2 diabetes. (the adult onset)
The peak benefits come from walking 20-30 minutes several times a week. I know for me, walking three to four times a week helps reduce the soreness/pain I feel from my cardio classes I take at the YMCA twice a week. I try to walk the day before and the day after these classes for sure, as well as daily if possible.
I urge you to continue to add walking into your routine now as a daily habit, as opposed to later in life when it's much more difficult.
Next week I'll share some strategies to get us up and moving.

  1. Walking is definitely a very helpful and important exercise. It’s simple, yet effective. Sometimes, when my family and I go to a shopping center, we park our car far away from the stores. This way, we can get that exercise we need as we walk towards the store. Small adjustments like this can help people get the daily exercise they need to stay strong and healthy.

  2. I like walking at the beach and the mountains. I always find it to be enjoyable and I like to look at the houses and scenery. I feel better after I have walk, it helps to get rid of the nervous energy I have.

  3. I agree. I think walking is very important to do, expecially on a daily bases. Everyday I walk 1 hour. Normally I will walk for thirty minutes after I eat breakfast then before I go to bed I will walk another thirty minutes.

  4. Although walking seems like a small thing to do as a part of exercising, it isn't. As you mentioned, there are many benefits of walking. I think that people should try walking more often. For example, if you are heading to a destination close to your home, maybe you could try walking there instead.
