March week 3

As we continue on this journey of working out our cognitive as well as our physical, I think it's important we discuss the foods that will help to maintain our health in both areas. If you are eating a healthy variety of foods (found on the new food plate, used to be pyramid) most doctors believe that should help ward off dementia and other like diseases. Remember our gentic make up pre disposes us for disease, but with that said, I believe we must do everything in our power, kicking and fighting if need be, to maintain our cognitive and physical health. That is why we must eat healthy and exercise often. Dr. Oz, a cardiac surgeon, has written that vigorous activity and a healthy diet are the morst important predictors of a long, healthy life. Why wouldn't we want to do everything within our power to maintain our health long into old age?
* I've given each of your teachers the new 'food plate' for you. Please see them.

  1. I believe a healthy diet is even more important than exercising. Think about it. If your diet is unhealthy, you wouldn't even have the strength or ability to walk, let alone exercise. Of course, regular exercise is still extremely important. People must do both in order to maintain a strong and healthy body. If you want your health to stay in good condition, remember to eat the right portions of grains, vegetables, fruits, meats, poultry, snacks, etc. everyday.

  2. Eating the right foods in addition to exercising is very important. If you are exercising every day, yet eating greasy fast food, then you won't get results. We need to eat healthy to keep our body strong and fit to exercise. In addition, we need to make sure we are eating the appropiate amount of each food group. Too much or too less can damage our health as well.

  3. My family and I are on a healthy diet that is not always easy. Fruit smoothies with soy milk and tofu, grilled chicken and vegetables, trying not to eat bread, and no junk food.

  4. If you work out every day, but have a diet full of sugars, you will not lose much weight. But if you have both a health diet, and work out every day, you will burn fat more efficiently.
